Director Jeff Stephen Maki dreamed about finding one unique place in the Pacific Northwest that was layered with a monumental history that had been overlooked by most conventional historians--a history that included ancient times, the western frontier, significant world explorers, pivotal Indian treaties, railroads, and logging camps, missions and schools, engaging personal stories, and unique innovations utilized to suvive and flourish on the frontier. Maki found this wonderful place--a place with a unique history that is a wonderful representation of so much of Pacific Northwest history in general --and even of the entire North American continent-- a spectacular history about a courageous and dedicated people that laid the foundations for a new life--that bucked all odds--and survived.
